I haven't blogged much lately, I know! Sorry!
I have been thinking a lot lately about the necessity of changing our blog name.
I originally started this blog when we began the adoption process as a way to help birth families get to know us...of course, back then, we only had Kayley. And giving the blog our names allowed birthfamilies to google our names and find us...(since we were not allowed to put blog addresses on our profile!)

Now we have Maggie...and of course...
JamesStephanieKayley.blogspot... doesn't include Maggie.

I'm having a really rough time coming up with a new blog name.
And I'm really worried about what is going to happen to my followers and other readers who check in more infrequently?

Either way, I think the time of transition is here and the change will happen in the next few weeks. Many of you I can email, but many of you I cannot, since I don't know your email!
A lot of you too I am friends with on Facebook, but...not everybody.

If you want to make sure you get the new address and we are NOT friends on FB or we don't email, please leave a comment and send me your email...
or email us at
(ugh--another thing that needs to be changed!)

You're right, she doesn't look like me...

Its so weird, I have had 2 separate people ask me last week if it bothers me that my kids don't look like me. You know, the fact that, since they are adopted...we don't share common features. One friend pointed out that "it must be hard to not find a little bit of yourself in your children."

In all honesty, I told her, "No? Not really" Because it has never bothered me. It really hasn't. But, since she mentioned it... I did start to notice how much my friends' children look like them and have similar features and personality traits. And, maybe, just a little, I feel a little jealous when I see my adorable nephew look JUST LIKE HIS Daddy. The smile and expressions. How fun! That must feel good? To have a have that common opportunity to say, "that looks just like...".

But - its ok. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that it isn't important. Its more of a gee-whiz kind of thing. And the more I thought about that, the more I realized that...Nature or kids and I do share a common bond. A spiritual bond if not a physical bond. Kayley, for sure, has picked up so many of my habits and mannerisms that she is BY FAR her Mommy's daughter.

So, when the 2nd person asked a similar question last week I answered, "You're right, she doesn't look like me...but she sure ACTS a lot like me! (Heaven help us all!).

Ha-Ha Tonka State Park

Because we are crazy and always game for a new adventure, we loaded in the car and headed to Ha-Ha Tonka State Park on an adventure! It was way to cold, so, I'm not sure why....we will definitely have to go back when the weather is nicer and we can hike around a little more...

Snow Angels...

Oh, I have never laughed so hard... Maggie in the snow. She is at first confused...
Then elated! But, she kept tipping over! She was SO puffy in that snowsuit!
Kayley had a great time!
She kept trying to slide down this hill, but the snow was so dry and powdery that it just wasn't at all slippery.

Maggie tipping over.

Guitar Center - Who knew?

Who knew that an accidental visit to Guitar Center could be so fun and interesting?
Playing a Bongo.
Possibly a concert pianist? I have a video...I'll see if I can't get it to upload at some point.
Yeah! Rockin out on a Mandolin! (Or according to Kayley "a Kayley-sized guid-tar!")

Rockaway Beach - Mini Road Trip

So, being the adventurous (and slightly bored) people that we are, we thought we would kick off the new year with a little drive. We didn't know where we were going when we started out...then decided to head to Branson 'the back way'. We made our way slowly through the Missouri countryside...which was beautiful, until we ended up at Rockaway Beach...It was wicked cold out there by the water!!
Maggie was cold so she got wrapped up in Daddy's jacket.

My hair was insanely static-ey after getting back in the car!!! Whoa!

I didn't get any pictures but we made it to Powersite, a little town that was pretty much abandoned near the Powersite Dam. Only we discovered that not much is abandoned any houses and well lived in. We saw the Dam from above...couldn't figure out exactly how to get down there, then decided that we needed another break from the car so we made it to Branson and stopped at Dick's 5 & 10. So, yeah, that place is NOT a good place for little kids...although it was neat and Kayley bought herself a little Sugar Daddy on a stick for only 15 cents...

We also headed home 'the back way', which took a while. On the way home there was this ginormous THING in the road. A cow...or maybe a bull. I'm a city girl and couldn't say for certain, but it was hollering angrily at those other cows across the fence... He finally moseyed off the road so we could continue.

We made it to Springfield...bought Maggie a birthday cake (yes, in case you forgot, tomorrow is Maggie first birthday!!!!) and headed home. The girls did great considering we spent easily 6+ hours in the car. We are ready for more impressive road trips!
