St. Patricks Day Unit Study - Day 7

Kissing the Blarney Stone-
Blarney is a town in Ireland that is famous for a stone at the very top of Blarney castle.  Irish people believe that the power of speaking well is given to those who kiss this stone!
(You actually have to hang upside down to get to it...and I couldn't even imagine the COOTIES all over that stone!!!  blech!!)

Paint a rock green to make your own Blarney Stone!  Decorate with Jewels, stickers, etc.

Dr Seuss Day!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring to you a short, one-day unit study on Dr Seuss!  Yesterday was Dr. Suess' birthday (if he was still living he'd be 107 years old!).

Enjoy!

We lapbooked this and had a great time with it!

I put pictures of Dr. Seuss books in a bag, and as we drew the names we did several projects!  Kayley's favorite was making her own green eggs to eat for lunch!  (Yuck!)

We learned about Dr. Seuss, we read Cat in the Hat, Mr. Brown can Moo, Hop on Pop, Star Belly Sneetches, Fox in Socks, Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish and In a People House.  I printed off several activities from Seussville.com to complete and created that cute little hat to make up our own rhyming words.

St. Patrick's Day Unit Study - Day 6

Day 6 - More St. Patrick's Day Symbols

Shamrocks-  People believe that it is lucky to find a 4 leaf clover.  They also believe that the leaves have special meaning.  1 is for faith, 2 is for hope, 3 is for love, 4 is for luck!

We read the book The Luck of the Irish by Margaret MacNamara.

Then we colored a little teddy bear with a harp coloring page while listening to Harp music that I found at the library!  We glued our decorative bear onto the cover of our lapbook.  Did you know that the harp is the "official" national symbol of Ireland?  It's true!!

We also read from Kathleen: The celtic knot while coloring a pretty celtic knot pattern that we also added to the cover of our lapbook!
